Open-back audiophile headphones, handmade in Brooklyn
Four generations of the Grado family have been hand-assembling headphones in the same Brooklyn workshop since 1953. From the flagship Signature HP100 SE — honouring founder Joseph Grado's 100th birthday — to the metal-housed SR325x, every pair features Grado's 4th-generation X Drivers, open-back design, and the warm, musical character that has made the brand a legend. No robots, no outsourcing — just human ears, human hands, and Brooklyn craftsmanship.
More powerful magnetic circuits with rare-earth alloys, lighter copper-plated aluminium voice coils, and reconfigured diaphragms — lower distortion, wider bandwidth, more detail at every volume.
Grado's signature open-air principle creates a natural, spacious soundstage with realistic instrument separation — the sound of a live performance, not a sealed chamber.
Cocobolo, Brazilian walnut, mahogany, maple, hemp, and machined aluminium — each material chosen for its unique acoustic resonance and hand-shaped in Brooklyn.
Every driver matched to 0.05 dB, every pair assembled and tested by human hands at the same workshop where Joseph Grado started in 1953.
Joseph Grado started building phono cartridges in Brooklyn in 1953. His nephew John brought headphones into the family. Today, John's sons carry the tradition forward — still in the same building, still assembling every driver by hand, still matching each pair to 0.05 dB. The Signature HP100 SE, released for Joseph's 100th birthday, features a new 52mm driver with a paper composite cone and copper-plated aluminium voice coil — the most refined transducer Grado has ever built. No robots, no outsourcing, no compromise. Just Brooklyn craftsmanship and 70 years of listening.
