Philosophy

Harold Joseph Leak founded the company in 1934 with a single ambition: to build amplifiers with the lowest possible distortion. His Point One amplifier, named for its groundbreaking 0.1% THD at full power, set a benchmark the industry spent decades chasing. After more than forty years away from production, Leak returned in 2020 with a fresh take on traditional British stereo design -- combining contemporary performance with the classic Leak styling that defined a golden age of hi-fi.

Sandwich Cone Construction

Rigid and light, since 1961.

Leak's signature driver technology bonds aluminium skins to a polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam core, creating a diaphragm that is exceptionally stiff yet remarkably light. First introduced in 1961, this construction suppresses breakup modes across a wider bandwidth than conventional paper, plastic or pure metal cones.

The original Leak Sandwich loudspeaker was a breakthrough in driver design and earned a devoted following in studios and living rooms worldwide. The modern version refines the concept with contemporary adhesives, tighter manufacturing tolerances and optimised cone geometry, while preserving the fundamental principle: a composite structure that behaves as a perfect piston across its entire operating range.

ESS HyperStream DAC

32-bit conversion with jitter elimination.

The ES9038Q2M uses ESS Technology's HyperStream modulator architecture combined with a time-domain jitter eliminator to achieve an exceptionally low noise floor. Native support for PCM up to 768 kHz and DSD512 ensures compatibility with the highest-resolution digital sources available.

HyperStream replaces the traditional delta-sigma feedback loop with a patented architecture that reduces quantisation noise without the drawbacks of conventional noise shaping. The time-domain jitter eliminator re-clocks the incoming digital signal, effectively isolating the DAC from upstream clock imperfections regardless of the source.
