Wharfedale EVO 5 Series
Flagship floorstander. Award-winning evolution.

The EVO 5.4 is the flagship of Wharfedale's new EVO 5 series — a 3-way floorstander that advances every element of its multi-award-winning predecessor. The AMT tweeter is now enhanced with Silentweave™ sound-absorbing material and ResoFrame™ elastomer damping; the 2-inch soft-dome midrange adds Resoseal™ technology for richer vocal reproduction; and twin 6.5-inch woven Kevlar woofers feed an evolved three-directional SLPP port that equalises pressure and reduces turbulence. A hybrid metal-and-wood plinth further reduces resonance. The result: 42 Hz–24 kHz response, 90 dB sensitivity, and 108 dB peak SPL from a 59.5-litre cabinet. Recognised with AVForums Editor's Choice and Hi-Fi Choice Editor's Choice awards in 2025.
Air Motion Transformer with new Silentweave™ cotton-and-felt absorption behind the diaphragm and ResoFrame™ elastomer damping frame — reduced mechanical resonance and a smoother lower-treble band.
Soft-dome midrange with a thin elastomer mass ring at the rear of the cone — optimises frequency response across the critical vocal band for richer, more natural reproduction.
Dual woven black Kevlar cones feed an increased 59.5-litre cabinet volume — deeper, more controlled bass extension to 36 Hz (−6 dB).
Evolved from the previous generation's two-directional port — the three-directional Slot-Loaded Profiled Port equalises pressure and reduces turbulence for profound yet controlled bass without muddiness.
Air Motion Transformer precision.
Invented by physicist Dr. Oskar Heil, the Air Motion Transformer uses a folded, pleated diaphragm immersed in a powerful magnetic field to squeeze air laterally — like the bellows of an accordion — moving air four times faster than the diaphragm itself. The result is vanishingly low distortion, exceptional transient speed, and an effortless, open high-frequency response that conventional dome tweeters cannot match. Used across the Elysian, Aura, and EVO 5 ranges in sizes from 27×90 mm to 90 mm.
Slot-Loaded Profiled Port.
Wharfedale's Slot-Loaded Profiled Port directs high-pressure, high-velocity airflow through a series of precisely shaped slot ports in the speaker's plinth, rather than using a conventional round port. This reduces turbulence, eliminates port noise, and improves overall efficiency — delivering deeper, better-controlled bass from a given cabinet volume with improved dynamic performance at high listening levels. The SLPP system features across the Elysian, Aura, and EVO 5 ranges.
Heritage-grade bass and midrange.
The Heritage and EVO 5 series use black woven Kevlar cone drivers — a material renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and natural damping characteristics. Kevlar's inherent stiffness ensures pistonic motion across the operating band, while its fibrous structure provides controlled internal damping that prevents ringing and colouration. Each driver is paired with a precision-wound voice coil and low-distortion motor system for detailed, dynamic bass reproduction.
Point-source purity for the critical band.
The EVO 5 series features a dedicated soft-dome midrange driver with a plasticiser coating for extra damping — an unusual and impressive feature at its price point. With a linear response from 800 Hz to 5 kHz, the dome behaves as a true point source across the critical vocal and instrument band, delivering superior imaging and coherence compared to cone midrange drivers. This technology trickles down from Wharfedale's research into ideal transducer geometries.
