Moonriver Audio Integrated Amplifiers
Three years of R&D. 50 watts. Malmö craft.

The Model 404 is Moonriver's original integrated amplifier and the platform the Reference is built on. Three years of development went into a 50 W/channel dual-mono design with five separate power supplies, a fully discrete preamp section, and relay-based signal switching. Two of the five line inputs can be fitted with optional MM or MM/MC phono modules and SPDIF or USB DAC modules without soldering. A Blue ALPS motorised potentiometer, 30 A soft-start relay, and solid walnut side panels round out the package. Hand-assembled through-hole construction in Malmö, Sweden.
Separate transformer windings and five independent power supplies with overload protection give each channel its own reservoir of current — the foundation for the 404's unforced dynamics.
No op-amps in the preamp signal path. A discrete, relay-switched preamp section keeps the chain between source and power stage as short and transparent as possible.
Line inputs 1 and 4 can be reassigned to an optional MM or MM/MC phono module (user-adjustable gain via dip switches) or a SPDIF/USB DAC module — installed without soldering.
All analog circuits use through-hole components hand-soldered onto PCBs laid out for the shortest possible signal path. A tool-free top plate makes the amplifier serviceable for decades.
