Class AB amplifiers offer the efficiency of Class B with the low-distortion characteristics of Class A — but only when the bias point is set perfectly. In practice, the optimal bias current drifts as transistors age and as temperature changes during a listening session. Conventional designs set a fixed bias at the factory and accept the resulting degradation over time. Adaptive Bias Control continuously monitors the output transistors' operating point by digitising and sampling the current flowing through them many thousands of times per second. A feedback loop dynamically adjusts the bias current to maintain the ideal operating point regardless of temperature, signal level, or component ageing. The result is an amplifier that delivers the same crossover-distortion-free performance on day one as it does after a decade of use — something no fixed-bias design can achieve.
